Glena Harrison
Glena was born January 10, 1942 in Sudan, Texas. She was one of two people in Sudan to be born at the Sudan Hospital before it closed down. Glena attended school in Sudan and was part of the graduating class of 1959 as one of the top students. During her attendance at Sudan High School the Hornettes made it to the State Tournament and were only two points shy of a State Championship. She received a basketball scholarship to Wayland Baptist University, and pursued a major in education. While a member of the Flying Queens, she was a 3-time All-American as a guard, and back then as a guard you played only defense the whole game because it was the old six-man game. Glena was selected to play on the American National Team in Russia. She also was selected to play in the Pan-American Games in Brazil and received a Gold Medal. After attending Wayland for four years, she graduated in 1963. In 2009, she was inducted into the Wayland Baptist Hall of Honor. After college she went on to pursue a junior high coaching job at Muleshoe for two years. In 1965, she met her husband, Al Harrison, and they were married in September of 1965. She then took on the head girls basketball position in Sudan and continued coaching from 1965 through 1971. Glena taught for 35 years and retired in 2001. She has two children, the oldest being Sharla Harrison-Rich, and the youngest being Jay Harrison. Glena has a very humbling personality and enjoys reading and volunteering at the Methodist Church with programs such as KFC (Kids For Christ) here in Sudan, following the Sudan basketball teams today, and most importantly she enjoys spending time with her family and 8 year old granddaughter, Emma.
Sharla Harrison-Rich
Sharla attended all of high school at Sudan. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class. While being in high school she was a member of the Hornettes and was named an All-State Basketball player. During this time, the Hornettes also won a State Championship in 1983. After high school she received a basketball scholarship to Wayland Baptist University where she was an All-American and the All-Time leading scorer. She attended the University of Texas Health Science of San Antonio. She holds a degree in Medical Technology. Sharla married Tim Rich and now has an 8 year old daughter named Emma. She is the manager of ABBOT systems based out of Chicago, Illinois. Along side of her work schedule, she keeps up with the Sudan basketball teams and enjoys spending time with her family.
